The configuration dialog

Most of Akregator's options are listed in the Akregator configuration dialog. The configuration dialog can be found in the menu under Settings->Configure Akregator...

Akregator's configuration dialog consists of four pages:

  • General: everything which didn't fit anywhere else
  • Archive: Here you can limit the number of articles stored
  • Appearance: Custom font settings used in of Akregator
  • Browser: Customize the behavior of the internal browser tabs

General Page

Show tray icon - If enabled, Akregator's tray icon is shown in the systray. For more information on the tray icon, see (TODO: ref tray icon chapter).

Use notifications for all feeds - When enabled, Akregator notifies you of all new articles fetched in any feed. If you want to enable notifications only for some but not all feeds, leave this option disabled and enable it for the specific feed in the feed's (TODO: ref feed properties dialog).

Use interval fetching - Here you can specify a time interval, after which feeds are checked for new articles. Note that fetching of articles generates traffic and thus costs for the provider hosting the feed you're reading. Some sites may even block you, if you fetch the feed file too often. In general, 30 minutes is a good choice. You can override this setting per feed - see (TODO: ref feed properties dialog).

Mark all feeds as read at startup - When enabled, Akregator marks all articles as read when started.

Fetch feeds at startup - When enabled, Akregator fetches all feeds right after start

Use the browser cache - When enabled, the KDE-wide browser cache settings are used when updating feeds. You can configure the KDE-wide cache either in KControl (TODO: link) or in Konqueror's configuration dialog (TODO: link). Note: you should leave this option enabled whenever possible. Disabling this option leads to increased network traffic. The traffic caused by aggregators not using caching increases the costs for providers and thus decreases the chance that feeds are offered.

Archive Page

Here you can configure the article archive of feeds. These settings are global settings, used as default by all feeds. If you want to use a custom setting for a feed, you can set it in (TODO: ref feed properties dialog, archive tab).

Keep all articles - All articles are kept forever.

Limit feed archive size - If the number of articles exceeds the chosen limit, the oldest articles are deleted. Note that flagged articles are ignored when counting the number of articles: If your limit is 500, and you have 510 unflagged and 50 flagged articles, Akregator will ignore the 50 flagged ones and only delete the 10 oldest unflagged articles. So in total, 550 articles are kept.

Delete articles older than n days - Articles older than n days are deleted from the archive, unless they have the keep flag set. Akregator checks for expired articles at startup and then once per hour, so expiry may be delayed.

Disable Archiving - No articles are stored - all articles are discarded when quitting Akregator

Appearance Page

On this page you can configure the appearance of the article viewer and the browser tabs. You can specify the font sizes and faces to be used (TODO refer to konq's font settings). Check Underline Links if you want links to be underlined by default.

In the article viewer (TODO link), the content is rendered using the Standard font in Medium font size.
